What Artboard Master does
Copy artboards in one document, select the anchor in the other, click a side. Artboard Master pastes and positions them in a single step.
Artboards from the clipboard are inserted into the target document, contents included.
They are placed as a block next to the anchor — right, below, left or above — with the gap you set. Top edges align for left/right, left edges for above/below.
Keep the arrangement as copied, or lay the artboards out as one row or one column, sorted by name.
The outermost new artboard stays selected, so the next paste extends the chain automatically.
Tidy up gaps works on the whole document: artboards are grouped into rows, and rows as well as the artboards within a row are set to the chosen spacing. Indents and the overall layout are preserved. Every action is one history step — ⌘Z undoes it completely.
Fit canvas enlarges the canvas so that every artboard lies inside it. The button turns red as soon as artboards stick out beyond the canvas and green once everything fits — useful when Auto-size Canvas is switched off (see below).
Was Artboard Master macht

Where it belongs
Artboard Master 1.2 is built for documents that grow artboard by artboard:
- product image sets for marketplaces and shops;
- ad and banner variants in several sizes;
- social media formats;
- language versions of the same layout;
- template documents that collect artboards from many source files;
- grid-like layouts of equal-height artboards.
- Produktbildsätze für Marktplätze und Shops;
- Anzeigen- und Bannervarianten in mehreren Größen;
- Social-Media-Formate;
- Sprachversionen desselben Layouts;
- Vorlagendokumente, die Zeichenflächen aus vielen Quelldateien sammeln;
- rasterartige Layouts gleich hoher Zeichenflächen.
Honest limitations
Tidy up gaps groups artboards into rows by vertical overlap. Free-form layouts with heavily overlapping artboards or very different heights within a row can end up grouped differently than intended — check the result and use ⌘Z if needed.
- Pasting uses the clipboard of Photoshop: select the artboards in the Layers panel of the source document and copy with ⌘C.
- Only top-level artboards are handled; Photoshop does not allow nested artboards anyway.
- Row and column layouts sort by artboard name — name the artboards in the order you want.
- The plugin moves artboards; it does not resize, rename or export them.
How it works
- In the source document, select the artboards in the Layers panel and press ⌘C.
- In the target document, select the anchor artboard.
- Open Artboard Master.
- Click the side next to the anchor: right, below, left or above.
- Choose the arrangement: as copied, one row or one column. Set the gap.
- Choose Paste & arrange.
- Repeat — the next paste continues from the last artboard placed.

Using the plugin
- Open the source document and select the artboards in the Layers panel (⌘-click for several).
- Copy them with Edit → Copy (⌘C).
- Switch to the target document and select the anchor artboard in the Layers panel.
- Open Plugins → Artboard Master. “Current selection” uses the selected artboard as anchor; alternatively pick one from the list.
- Click the side next to the anchor symbol where the new artboards should go.
- Choose the arrangement and set the gap (default 100 px; the arrows step by 10 px).
- Choose Paste & arrange. Switch off “Align to anchor automatically” to paste without moving.
- To even out an existing document, set the gap and choose Tidy up gaps.
Anwendung
Tips for clean layouts
- Name artboards in the order you want them — row and column layouts sort by name (“Image 2” before “Image 10”).
- Copy a complete row at once; “As copied” keeps its internal spacing.
- Use “One row” when the source artboards lie on different heights but should end up side by side.
- Keep one gap value per document; Tidy up gaps uses the same field.
- Check the result at fit-to-screen zoom before the next paste.
- If something lands wrong, ⌘Z reverts the whole action in one step.
- Large documents: switch off Auto-size Canvas in the Artboard tool options and use Fit canvas instead — see “Common problems”.
Common problems
“Nothing pasted – clipboard empty or no content from Photoshop”
“Pasted, but no artboards among the layers”
“No artboard selected”
Tidy up gaps grouped artboards differently than expected
Pasting takes minutes – spinning cursor, then a long progress bar
In documents with many artboards (roughly 100 or more) Photoshop recalculates the canvas after every artboard move. Since Photoshop 25.9 this can take minutes or even hang – Adobe recommends switching off automatic canvas sizing. Artboard Master takes over that job:
- Select the Artboard tool (under the Move tool).
- In the options bar, open the gear menu.
- Uncheck Auto-size Canvas. Photoshop also unchecks the option to shrink the canvas on save – that is expected.
- After pasting or moving, click Fit canvas in Artboard Master whenever the button is red. It enlarges the canvas in one step so that all artboards lie inside it.
The setting is stored per user, not per document, and can be switched on again at any time. Artboard Master also pre-enlarges the canvas before arranging, so pasting stays fast either way.
